Ability to Duplicate a Topic and Insert It Into DITA Map In One Action

Hi,

My team has asked for a feature that would let a user duplicate an existing topic referenced in a DITA Map and insert a topic reference to the newly created duplicate in one action.

The use case for this is many times when a user wants to create a topic for a publication, they duplicate an existing topic and then modify it as needed. They then have to remember to open the DITA Map and insert a reference to the newly duplicate topic, and our users often forgot to do this last step.

It would be extremely helpful if that was a way for a user to perform both of these actions from the DITA Map editor and have the new duplicate topic open in a new tab. The new topic reference to the new duplicate topic could be placed immediately after the topic reference from which the duplicate was created.

The name of the action could be something like: "Duplicate and Insert Topic Reference"

I believe a similar action called "Duplicate" already exists from the DITA Maps Manager in Oxygen XML Author.

Do you want this "Duplicate" action to be available in the DITA Map opened in tree mode or in author mode?

Hi Cosmin,

Thanks for your reply. We are not yet using the Tree Mode feature in Web Author since it is still experimental, but I think ideally this action would be available in both modes.

The Duplicate action would immediately be useful to us in the Author mode. I envision it will also be useful to us in the future when the Tree Mode becomes a standard feature and we begin using it more widely.
