oXygen comments aren't pulled down from CF server
Post by Micaela Monroe »
Hi there,
My colleague uploaded two DITA topics to our Content Fusion server. An SME reviewed those topics and added oXygen comments, but didn't try to change any of the actual content. When my colleague tried to pull the comments down locally, CF/oXygen reported no changes were made, even though he could see the oXygen comments via Content Fusion. When he made changes to the text in the DITA files, CF/oXygen recognized his text updates and his SME's oXygen comments.
Is there a configuration, or something else we can do to make sure Content Fusion recognizes oXygen comments, even if no changes to the text were made?
Thanks,
Micaela

Hi,
Oxygen Content Fusion Connector should detect when the files from the server are changed, even if only review comments are added in the documents. We tried to reproduce this but we did not detect any problem.
We need more details from you, if it is possible.
For example, what is the version of Content Fusion server that you are using? Do you use the evaluation server or an enterprise Content Fusion server? Also, what version of the plugin do you use?
A small sample and some steps to reproduce the problem would also be helpful (or some screenshots).
If you want, you can send all these information on our email support address (support@oxygenxml.com).
Best Regards,
Mihaela

Hi,
I have some more information for you about the issue, apologies for the delay. My colleague is using the 3.0.1 version of the CF plugin. Our CF server is v2.0 (we may be upgrading to 4.0 in the near future).
He and I ran a test today - he sent me a link to his two topics and I added an oXygen comment to the first only. This is what his screen looks like when he attempts to pull down the changes (it shows someone made a change in the panel to the right, but nothing when he attempts to get changes):
Since the initial test, my colleague upgraded to the 3.0.2 version of the plugin and got the same results. I have the same configuration as him, and I've tried to do a small test with a bookmap containing a single topic. I can't reproduce those results on my machine with those files.
I can't send the source DITA files until I figure out what the company guidelines are, but I am working on it.

Hello,
When you say that you added Oxygen comments are you referring to the comments added in the document, using the "Add Comment" action from the editor's toolbar or to the comments added by using the "Add message" button from the "Task Activity" section in Content Fusion?
Best Regards,
Mihaela

Hi, yes I'm clicking the Add Comment button in the toolbar to add the comment.

Hi,
Thank you for the details. We tried to reproduce the problem but on our tests the comments are recognized as changes.
It would help us a lot if you could send us a sample task and some steps to reproduce. If there is a problem in sharing the content please try to create a sample task (from the web interface for example) and then try to reproduce this problem again.
Best regards,
Mihaela

Hi Mihaela,
I created a really simple bookmap/map and found that my colleague ran into the same issue. I'll send what I created to the email address you provided earlier. We tried two ways to insert comments: I added a comment in the short description before any of the text, and I tried to wrap the body paragraph in a comment. He wasn't able to retrieve any of the comments.
This map/topic set up is a duplicate of the super simple test map I tried to test on my system before. With this set up, I was able to pull comments down to my local machine.

Hi,
Thank you for the samples.
Here is what you can try:
- in the "Get Changes" dialog switch to "Show All Files" view (the first button from the right top corner toolbar)
- select the file that you know it contains new comments
- check the two editors from the bottom
In the right side editor do you see the comments added on the server?
If the answers is yes, maybe there are some options set that may lead to ignoring the comments processing instructions during the comparation. To check the options, click on the "Diff Options" button from the "Get Changes" dialog [1] (or directly open the "Files Comparation" preferences page [2]). You can send us a screenshot with this page, to analyze the options. Then, if it is possible, you can try to reset the options to defaults (see the "Restore Defaults" button from the bottom right corner) and then try to get changes again to see if it works.

That's great, resetting the options to default worked - thanks so much for your help!
