Keyboard shortcut for inserting elements

Post by dcramer »

Hi there,
I have a pretty trivial question (I've looked through the help but haven't found the answer). Editing a DocBook document in XML Author, I would like to insert an inline element (e.g. <filename>) without touching the mouse, but I can't find the keyboard shortcut to do that and even in the Options->Menu Key Shortcuts, can't find what action I would assign a binding to if I wanted to do this. So what's the keyboard shortcut for moving the focus to the Elements view?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

You do not have to move focus to the Elements view, just press "ENTER" and insert the desired tag, this is much quicker and is they way in which we think users who prefer keyboards should be most comfortable with.

But, if you want to move focus to the Elements view you can assign a keyboard shortcut to it in the Oxygen Preferences->Menu Shortcut Keys (search for the "Elements" action in the "Perspective" category).
Oxygen 12 will have some more improvements for this, focus will be given to the right component and when you will press "ESC" focus will be given back to the editor.

Ok, thanks Radu. I stumbled on that shortly after submitting my previous post. That is indeed much more convenient than using the Element view.

Thanks,
David
